Advisory Board

 

We have an inspiring and talented group of scientists and scientific communication specialists who will act as advisors for the development and maintenance of the ClimateSnack concept. Thanks to the following (in alphabetical order) for showing their support and willingness to be a part of ClimateSnack.

Elina Halttunen

Elina works as part researcher and part educator. Her research interests are in aquatic ecology and life-history theory, and through her PhD she came to know and love Atlantic salmon and it’s spawning behaviour.
As an educator she runs the High North Academy, where she establishes, coordinates and teaches several PhD-courses on generic and transferrable skills. Elina is especially involved in the courses on communicating and popularizing science, as this is something she cares much about.

 

Michel Mesquita

Michel is a researcher at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research in Bergen, Norway. He received his PhD in 2007 and has managed several large international research projects. His interests lie in the fields of numerical modeling and bayesian statistics. Michel is one of the founding authors at the Atmospheric Sciences Section of the AGU Newsletter where he has been contributing several times a year since 2007. Thomas Spengler

Thomas is a meteorologist focusing on the combination of theory, observations and modeling. He has specialized on a variety of scales ranging from meso, synoptic to large-scale flow and participated in several field campaigns addressing meso-scale atmospheric flow and atmosphere-ocean interactions. Currently, one particular focus is on high impact weather in the Arctic, e.g., Polar lows and topographically initiated wind events with an increasing focus on atmosphere-ocean-ice interactions. He was recently elected a member of the International Commission for Dynamics Meteorology and is leading the annual ResClim writing workshop. Jon Turner

Jon is Director of the Institute for Academic Development (IAD) at the University of Edinburgh. Following his PhD in petroleum geology he completed an industry funded post doc before helping to set up and then lead the inter-disciplinary Master of Research (MRes) in the Natural Environment at Edinburgh.  He established the Postgraduate Transferable Skills Unit at Edinburgh in 1997 to develop and run courses covering a wide range of generic research and transferable skills for postgraduate research students.  Jon has worked with many different institutions, in the UK and internationally, to develop courses and promote skills training, personal, professional and career development to researchers, supervisors and universities.  He was coordinator of the UK Research Council funded Vitae Hub for Scotland & Northern Ireland between  2003 and 2012, is a member of the external evaluation board of the Norwegian Research School in Climate Dynamics and led the Coimbra group summer school for future European research leaders.
